Do your EMT coursework online on your own schedule, then come to one in-person skills week for hands-on training and testing. You finish ready for the National Registry (NREMT) exam.

Includes AHA BLS and three more certifications. What’s covered
How it works
Every student completes two parts, online coursework and a skills week, then tests for national certification with the NREMT.
Work through 160 to 180 hours of coursework in Canvas, at your own pace. A remote instructor is available to answer questions the whole way through.
Practice every EMT skill on real equipment, complete your clinical requirement and take your NREMT skills testing.
Sit the National Registry’s cognitive exam to earn your national certification, then apply for your EMT license in the state where you’ll work.
When you enroll, you choose your skills week location and date. Most students pick a date about three to four months out, which leaves time to finish the coursework.
Part 1
The course runs in Canvas, which works on a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop, so you can study at home, at work or on the road. Your progress saves as you go.
Lessons combine videos, audiobooks, slide presentations and interactive knowledge checks.
A remote instructor answers your questions throughout the course.

Part 2
Skills week is the only part of the course you attend in person. Your progress is checked when you arrive.
Coursework through the Secondary Assessment: Trauma benchmark is due three weeks before your skills week. Everything else must be complete by the Monday of skills week.
You can attend any skills week location you like. Most students choose by date as much as by distance.
If you can’t make your date, you can reschedule, but the fee applies. Pick a date you’re confident you can reach.
Skills week locations
The coursework is the same wherever you live. Pick the state and location that suit your dates and travel, then see that location’s upcoming skills weeks.

Live outside Montana? You can still train here: skills week is your only trip, and you then apply for a license in the state where you’ll work.
After the course
The NREMT is a national certification. Each state issues its own EMT license, and most states use NREMT certification for initial EMT licensure.
Where you attend skills week doesn’t decide where you can work. Once you’re NREMT certified, you apply for a license in the state where you plan to work, under that state’s requirements.
Each of our state pages covers that state’s licensing steps.
To see which states use NREMT certification for initial licensure, use the NREMT state map and select National EMS Certification Required for Initial State Licensure.
